The next time the Cambrian Nissan Black Sox face the Mancelona Orange Crush, they will already be leading.
The Black Sox and Crush were scheduled to play a double header on Saturday evening but the second game was called during the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain. The game will be continued when the Black Sox travel to Mancelona on July 20.
When the game was called, the Black Sox held a 4-0 lead with Nick Moon coming to the plate and two outs. The Black Sox opened up a 3-0 first inning lead in the game. Jake Lake had a double while Dalton Thibodeau and Kyle Diotte had singles before the game was called for the only three Black Sox hits. Alex Morrison was solid on the mound prior to the postponement.
When the game continues, the lineup will remain the same, so far as all the players who were in Saturday’s game make the trip. Black Sox coach Ryan Johns said the only change that can be made is the pitcher, unless a player that was in the lineup Saturday can’t make the trip.
In the opening game of the twin bill, the Black Sox rode homeruns by Wyatt Curry and Tyler Wilson to a 7-4 victory. Curry picked up the save while Lake picked up the victory on the mound. Andrew Toni had a pair of singles and a double while Jacob Yukich also reached base three times, walking twice and getting hit by a pitch.
“I was very pleased with the pitching staff. All of them came in and threw strikes and got ahead of hitters,” said Johns. “A few times in the first game we made a few defensive errors which made our pitchers throw a few extra pitches but we were able to capitalize and minimize the mistakes.”
There is little turnaround time for the Black Sox as they face the Traverse City Rockets on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. in a double header.
“I’m expecting Traverse City to have a strong club,” said Johns. “We’re going to put the best we have out on the field.”
